The Galatia

Episode one of the documentary series The Lost Face of History: the Celtic tribes who migrated to Anatolia and founded Galatia.

About the project

The Galatia is the first episode of The Lost Face of History, a documentary series by Han Sanat Prodüksiyon. The series rebuilds, in a cinematic language, the stories of peoples who left deep traces in Anatolia yet were forgotten by mainstream history. Episode one follows the Celtic tribes who set out from Europe and made a homeland in the heart of Anatolia: the Galatians. The Celts are sought in Britain, but they left their footprints in Anatolia.

Historical background

Having spread into the Balkans in the early 3rd century BC, Celtic groups crossed the Straits into Anatolia in 278–277 BC at the invitation of King Nicomedes I of Bithynia. The Tolistobogii, Tectosages and Trocmi eventually settled around Ancyra (Ankara), Pessinus and Tavium, and the region came to bear their name: Galatia. The nightmare of the Hellenistic kingdoms, the Galatians remained a decisive force in Anatolian politics until Galatia became a Roman province in 25 BC.

Approach

The teaser combines dramatic reconstruction, 4K cinematography on real natural locations and period-inspired costume design. Costume and historical consulting were provided by Han Sanat. The aim is to pair the depth of a documentary with the atmosphere of a feature film.
